Wendy Walker Deason

Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the kitchen floor in our house with a watercolor set and painting on a big, white sheet of paper. I have enjoyed drawing, painting, and looking at art for most of my life. My parents, Marilyn and Jim, also made sure that I was surrounded by books before I could even read. It was early exposure to the imagery in those books which led to a deep appreciation and interest in art. I received a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Louisiana Tech University in 1992, and stay very busy in the Nashville area as a decorative painter. I also enjoy working in my studio on paintings and drawings.

KAT'S JOURNEY is the first children's book I illustrated, and it is written by my father. The original illustrations are acrylic on paper, with a little conte' crayon and 4b pencil. It was so special to get to work on his project, and I am looking forward to collaborating with him on another adventure about his dog Kat very soon!

Some of the artists whose work I admire and count as influences are: Arthur Rackham, Maxfield Parrish, Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, William Morris, and John Singer Sargent. You can see more of my work at www.fetchingstudio.com.
